Careers telephone advice
BIS has launched a telephone careers helpline for students as part of the National Careers Service. Support is available from trained advisers who will talk through issues, offering confidential advice and practical help. Advisers are available from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week, telephone 0800 100 900, or for text messages on 0776 641 3219.
Choosing your career is an important step.
Planning what you will do to earn your living can be difficult- it’s hard to imagine what many people actually do whilst they are at work and then you need to be sure you choose something that interests and suits you.
We want to help you make these choices and that is the purpose of our Careers Education, Information and Guidance.
Try these:
- The Careers section of the library has many booklets and leaflets about different careers
- See the Careers notice board near the Medical Room and next to the Connexions office for details of College open days, apprenticeships and other training opportunities
- Our Connexions advisor may be able to help you or ask your tutor or subject teachers.
These websites will get you started:
Search locally available courses and training
www.careersbox.co.uk/index.php and www.futuremorph.org
Short videos of young people working in different jobs
www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/14To19/OptionsAt16/index.htm
Post 16 options
You will get careers guidance as part of the tutorial programme but it is always useful to be thinking about your options.
