Author visit to CCC

     We are very excited to be welcoming Steve Voake to CCC,  Steve is the award-winning author of several YA novels including The Dreamwalker's Child, The Starlight Conspiracy and Blood Hunters (Faber &Faber).

He has also written several series for younger readers including Daisy Dawson, Hooey Higgins and Maxwell Mutt (Walker Books). Insect Detective was awarded Best Illustrated Non-Fiction Children's book by the English Association.

Steve is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University and a regular tutor for the Arvon Foundation. He has taught a writing master class for the Guardian and was long listed for the University of Canberra's International...

Pop Up Reading Event

Year 7 and 8 students -  dont miss our annual Pop Up reading event in the Library.

Rebecca Matthews and Matt Heywood, both in Year 10,  will be reading "A Christmas Carol" at lunch time on Monday 5th December, Thursday 8th December and Monday 12th December.

Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in the library and be enthralled by the story -  described by Dickens himself in a letter:

Science is not just in the Labs!

Mrs Davies, Head of Science at CCC, has chosen a selection of exciting Science Fiction books for the Library. Come and see the Science fiction section, with books for all ages and see that Science books are not just Reference or Text Books.

Mrs Davies particularly recommends the works of Mary Roach and she is currently enjoying 'Packing for Mars', which The Times newspaper calls "Disgustingly good"!




If anyone would like to donate Science Fiction books they have read and enjoyed,  in good condition, suitable for 12 to 16 year olds, please see Mrs Holmes in the Library.

Alex Pring is the Winner of our World Book Day 2016 Website Quiz!

Alex Pring won the coveted prize of a Book Token and gigantic Chocolate Gold Medal in our recent Quiz. He also received 50 House points.

The quiz was part of numerous events held throughout the College on World Book Day.

Alex found the book titles and characters hidden in the News and Blog on the school website and was the first to hand in the correct answers.

He is pictured here with the College Librarian, Mrs Holmes, who awarded the prizes.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Book Fair, held in the Library last week as part of World Book Day, was a huge success. Students browsed hundreds of books and and we raised over £200.00, which earned us books to the value of £30.00 for the Library!

World Book Day Scholastic Book Fair

Dont miss the opportunity to use your £1.00 book token when you purchase a book in the Library. The sale is on today and Monday 7th March, at lunchtimes and in the afternoons from 3 till 4 pm..

Books starting from £2.99 with a wide choice of reading for Key Stage 3 and 4.


And so far this lunchtime we have sold over 20 books - well done readers!

Carnegie Medal Winner, Tanya Landman visits CCC!

Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 students attended an Assembly to listen to author Tanya Landman, who won the  2015 Carnegie Medal with her novel 'Buffalo Soldier'.

   Tanya read one of her short stories to the students and revealed that the hardest part of writing is 'how do you start'?

  After the Assembly, groups of students attended a creative writing workshop.   After answering a series of questions which gave them a framework for their story they proceeded with developing the themes. You will be able to read some of the best ones at a later date - watch the website!
